RS Current Veterans

Veterans Affairs

As part of our ongoing Medical Review Services initiatives, we continue to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in its commitment to providing the highest quality care for veterans through its peer review program. As the largest federal healthcare provider, the VA relies on peer reviews as a critical component of quality management. We remain actively engaged in this process by conducting standard of care determinations using the VA’s Electronic Health Record system and standardized reporting templates. Each case is reviewed by a specialist in the relevant field, who provides objective clinical expertise to assess whether the care delivered aligns with established standards, current literature, and practice guidelines. Aligned with our URAC accreditation, our reviewers undergo rigorous credentialing through our state-of-the-art software program. Additionally, all reviewers interested in performing these reviews must complete the VA’s onboarding process, which includes fingerprinting and a background check.

Since January 2019, iMPROve Health has reviewed more than 4,500 Emergency Department medical records for quality checks at a critical access hospital located in the western United States. We have tracked a steady increase in the rate of ‘appropriate’ quality, from 85% in 2019 to 92% in 2022. iMPROve Health participates virtually in the hospital’s quarterly Quality Assurance conferences.

iMPROve Health provides Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR) and Independent Informal Dispute Resolution (IIDR) services to state agencies. In 2024, we reviewed more than 1,300 citations to review. On average, our turnaround time was 17 calendar days per case.
