Former Chief Clinical Officer, Ascension Michigan
Dr. Bignotti served the medical community in a variety of organizations throughout his career. In 1995, he became the first Chief Medical Officer for Bon Secours Hospital and continued in that role through a joint venture with Henry Ford Health System that created Bon Secours Cottage Health Services. He remained in that role until 2005 when he accepted the role of Chief Medical Officer at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. In both of these roles, his primary responsibilities included quality, safety, medical education, credentialing, and medical staff development.
In 2011, Dr. Bignotti assumed the position of Chief Medical Officer for Trinity Health with similar responsibilities but across the entirety of the Trinity Health system (approximately 90 hospitals). During this time, he co-led multiple initiatives in quality and safety, particularly in the medical, surgical, and perinatal areas. Under his leadership, the system developed a systemwide Credentials Verification Office and an Office of Academic Affairs.
In 2015, Dr. Bignotti accepted the role of Chief Clinical Officer at Ascension Michigan, leading clinical quality and safety initiatives, the ambulatory network, and focusing on clinical leadership development until retiring from the organization in 2020.
Dr. Bignotti received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Michigan State University, and his M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine and obtained additional certifications in Geriatrics, Quality Assurance, and Utilization Review.
